Weather station

Currently, the centre has a weather station that is divided into two, one traditional and the other automatic. The building is situated within a closed space and allows the most common weather feature data to be recorded in this place that is situated at an altitude of 1,540 m.

The traditional weather station provides basic meteorological data using the following apparatus:

  • thermometer screen
  • maximum thermometer
  • minimum thermometer
  • psychrometer
  • raingauge
  • sunshine recorder
  • below-ground thermometers
The automatic building records all the weather data and variables in real time, which can be consulted from the Caixa Catalunya's Les Planes de Son Centre for all of the visitors. The facility is of major interest for climatology and meteorology studies of the high mountain and there is a lot of content in it to teach visitors and schools.

The automatic weather station, Davis Wireless Vantage Pro II Plus, is part of the Caixa Catalunya's Les Planes de Son centre’s weather station.

This station has many technical features, based on the indicators below, which are fitted with a solar panel and a battery for certain independence of operation:
  • Wind gauge: includes a direction and speed sensor. Can withstand winds of up to hurricane force.
  • Leaf moisture: indicates that there is humidity in areas where there is foliage. Range: 0-15
  • Raingauge: rocking gauge with extremely accurate self-emptying mechanism. Measures rainfall in increases of 0.1 to 0.2 mm. Has a heater.
  • Solar radiation: measures radiation and energy from the sun.
  • Temperature and humidity: air, land and water temperature.
  • UV sensor: measures the amount of UV rays that burn the skin, and shows and evaluates the dose.
This station has a WIRELESS repeater that performs the function of enhancing the receipt of all the data from all the indicators.
